Singing Rainbows

I tried putting Addie down in the pack-n-play today. As soon as she saw me headed in that direction she started throwing her weight around, and yelled loud enough that I am sure all the neighbors thought I was pinching her. Feeling guilty, I decided to lay on the floor next to her until she fell asleep. Well, that didn't happen quickly. I spent 20 minutes playing little games with her through the mesh. She's a crazy one, and thinks it is really fun when we touch fingers through the mesh or give each other kisses. She squishes her face up against it, and laughs so hard that she probably pees in her diaper. I was glad that I was able to spend that time with her just making her laugh. We played peek-a-boo as well. I was thinking about how many days go by without me trying to make her laugh. Sometimes I get so caught up in the "to do" list that I forget to enjoy the journey along the way. I go through the motions of feeding her, getting her dressed, and whatever else moms do. I really should just enjoy cuddling with her, or watching her learn and play when I get the chance. I know I will regret all those missed moments.

On Thursday she is going to be a one year old, and she started walking a few weeks ago. I am amazed at how quickly she has gone from being a baby to a little girl. I loved hearing her giggle today, and sang some songs to her that finally put her to sleep. When I was little my mom would sing me a rainbow song. I sang it tonight, but then had to go find the lyrics online. I am so nostalgic for my childhood whenever I hear it. Kambree and I were talking the other day about another song that we have known ever since we were little. I have only ever heard it sung with my family, and don't know anyone else that has ever heard it. It is really a weird song. Here are the lyrics:

Chorus :

Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Verbeck how could you be so mean?
I told you you'd be sorry for inventing that machine
For all the neighbors dogs and cats will nevermore be seen
For they've been ground to sausages in Johnny Verbeck's machine

1st verse:

There was a little fat boy a walkin in the store
he bought a pound of sausages and laid them on the floor
then he began to whistle, he whistled up a tune
and all the little sausages went dancing around the room

sing chorus again

2nd verse:

One night the darn thing busted, the dang thing wouldn't go
So Johnny Verbeck climbed inside to see what made it so
His wife was having nightmares a walking in her sleep
she gave that crank and awful yank
and WHAM
Johnny Verbeck was MEAT!

Disturbing isn't it? Why would you sing this to your children mom and dad? Has anyone else ever heard this? And since I am sharing songs I thought I would toss up one of my favorites to sing with my sisters. You sing it in a round with a slightly different tune, and I love it. I think it is just the chorus that we know. Do you have any family songs, or songs that you love to sing to your little ones?

Spider song:

It's a web, like a spider's web
made of silver, light and shadow
spun by the moon in my room at night

It's a web made to catch a dream
hold it tight till I awaken
as if to tell me my dream was of you
